NYSEG and RG&E, subsidiaries of AVANGRID (NYSE: AGR), in 2015 added nearly 23,000 more customers to those already saving energy and money by taking advantage of the companies’ energy efficiency programs. Since the first of the programs kicked off in 2009, more than 116,000 NYSEG and RG&E customers have participated.
Program participants are saving more than 472 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity and more than 14.7 million therms of natural gas each year – enough electricity and natural gas to power more than 55,000 homes for a year. And the environmental benefits of that reduced energy use continue to grow: the energy efficiency upgrades customers have implemented are preventing more than 403,000 tons of carbon emissions annually, the equivalent of taking nearly 95,000 cars off the road.
“Robust energy efficiency programs provide tangible benefits to participating customers in the form of reduced energy bills and to all of us in the form of a cleaner environment as a result of needing to source less energy to meet demand,” said Mark S. Lynch, president and CEO of NYSEG and RG&E. “These valuable programs go hand-in-hand with our commitment to environmental stewardship. As we prepare to mark the 47th anniversary of Earth Day, we encourage our customers to consider these programs not only to help them save energy and money, but also to contribute to a cleaner environment.”
The New York State Public Service Commission has approved funds for NYSEG and RG&E to continue energy efficiency programs for residential and business customers through 2016.
For 2016, NYSEG and RG&E have a collective target of reducing annual electricity consumption by 77.45 million kWh and annual natural gas consumption by 1.76 million therms through the energy efficiency programs.
