GUILTY PLEA FOR RIFLE POSSESSION USED IN SHOOTING

District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that NYGUEL WILLIAMS, 18, of Albany, pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C Violent Felony, before Honorable Peter A. Lynch in Albany County Court this morning.

Following an investigation into a shooting on January 17, 2016, in the area of Hudson Avenue in the City of Albany, officers from the Albany Police Department found WILLIAMS to be in illegal possession of a firearm. Police were investigating a shooting during which WILLIAMS illegally possessed a GSG522 .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle, and fired it at a group of individuals. The shooting resulted in property damage and no injuries.

WILLIAMS faces up to 15 years in State Prison when sentenced on a June 28, 2016.

Assistant District Attorney Steven Sharp of the Street Crimes Unit is prosecuting this case.
