David Paterson, elected as Lt. Governor on the 2006 ticket headed by Eliot Spitzer, became governor upon the resignation of Spitzer, following allegations of Spitzer's ivolvement in a prostitution scandal.

Paterson is New York State's first black governor, and the nation's first legally blind governor.
