Over $1.5 million announced for rural, economic devilment in Nefane

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded a grant and a loan totaling $1.6 million to the Town of Newfane in Niagara County under the Community Facility Loan and Grant Program.  The Rural Development funds will be used to purchase and make renovations to a fire hall building for use as a town hall.

Newfane recently purchased an old fire hall building to be used for a new town hall. Funds will be used to construct new offices for town government officials and a new community center with space for a senior center, Boy and Girl Scout meetings, blood drives and other community events.

Rural Development funds are used to support essential public facilities and economic development in rural communities.  The programs fund projects that create or preserve quality jobs and promote a clean rural environment.

Senator Charles Schumer announced the funding.
