Teens charged with throwing rocks at trucks on Thruway

ROTTERDAM – State Police on the Thruway would like to thank the public for their assistance in helping locate the suspects responsible for throwing rocks onto commercial vehicles from the Rynex Corners Road overpass.

On June 23rd, 4 large commercial trucks had their windshields broken by large rocks while they were traveling east bound on the thruway.  On August 17th another large commercial truck had its windshield broken by a large rock in the same area as the previous incidents.

In the last case the driver immediately pulled over and observed two people running from the Rynex Corners Road overpass.

The public played a very instrumental role in identifying the two subjects responsible.  The first suspect is a 15 year old male from Rotterdam Junction and the second is a 16 year old male from Princetown.  Both suspects were charged with four counts each of reckless endangerment and criminal mischief, both as misdemeanors.  They will be arraigned in Rotterdam Town Court on September 8.
