Lawyer charged with bribing and tampering with witness

CARMEL – An attorney who was charged with bribing a witness, tapering with a witness, and conspiracy, surrendered to Putnam County authorities late Thursday afternoon.

George Galgano was indicted on the charges that he was involved in the bribing and tampering of a witness who had been sexually abused by one of his clients.

When Galgano’s plot became known, officers and investigators from the Carmel Police Department and State Police and prosecutors from Putnam County District Attorney Adam Levy’s Office began to investigate.

“Women and children in Putnam County should be permitted to go about their daily lives without being sexually abused and assaulted,” said Levy. “When an assault does occur, Putnam’s law enforcement community comes together to ensure the offender is brought to justice.
