Inspection completed on Canadian tour bus involved in fatal crash; no defects found

RAY BROOK - State Police Troop B Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit has completed an inspection on the Canadian tour bus that was traveling from Trois-Rivières (Three Rivers), Quebec to New York City on July 18, 2014.

The bus was carrying 55 passengers and one driver.  The crash claimed the life of Chelssy Mercier, 14, of Quebec, who became trapped under the bus after it ran off Interstate 87 in North Hudson and rolled over in the median at around 8 a.m.

State Police say that at the completion of their inspection, they found that no pre-crash mechanical defects could have contributed to the accident.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the accident. Further information about the cause of the crash will be released as it is made available.
