One dead, eight campers hurt, in Catskills crash

TOWN OF BETHEL - The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office released the name of the driver who died in Saturday night's head-on collision between a car and a van on State Route 17B.

The driver of the car, which crossed over into the oncoming lane of traffic was Robert Schenk, 33, of Narrowsburg. An autopsy performed Sunday indicates that Schenk sustained traumatic injuries as a result of the impact. Although his airbag deployed, he was not wearing his seatbelt.

All of the passengers in the camp van from Wayne County PA were treated and released from Catskill Regional and Ellenville Hospitals.

Sheriff's Deputies are still investigating and have not determine why Schenk's vehicle left its lane of travel.
