Two phony bank robberies, bomb threats phoned in

PORT JERVIS – In less than one hour on Friday, police in Port Jervis received reports of bomb threats and bank robberies at two banks in the city.

Similar incidents were reported in Morris County, New Jersey and Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.

At about 11:51 a.m., police responded to a report of a robbery and bomb threat at the Sussex Bank branch at 20-22 Fowler Street. Members of the Port Jervis Police Department secured the surrounding area and the bank employees and customers were evacuated.

At about 12:28 p.m., the police received a report of a bomb threat and bank robbery at the TD Bank North branch at 205 East Main Street in Port Jervis.

The surrounding area was secured and bank workers and customers were evacuated.

A State Police K-9 unit searched both banks and found no explosives. The city streets were reopened and the banks resumed normal business with increased security measures.
