Western NY assemblyman blasts state over TZ Bridge loan

EAST AURORA – Buffalo area State Assemblyman David DiPietro (R, East Aurora) took the state to task on Monday for loaning over $260 million  from the state’s Clean Water State Revolving Fund to subsidize construction of the new Tappan Zee Bridge.

“The recent quarter of a billion dollar raid… has endangered our waterways as well as the economic viability of the future of the clean water fund,” DiPietro said.

He said the “short-sighted, downstate liberals have no financial plan in place for the bridge to repay its debt to the clean water fund.” He said “this gross negligence toward our waterways and its effect on the environment cannot stand.”

DiPietro said that all too often, Upstate suffers at that the hands of “Downstate bureaucrats who only know our communities as places to drive through on their way to Canada or Niagara Falls.” He said their communities and environment “deserve better than being leveraged on the back of non-existent financial plans.”
