Man drowns, toddler hospitalized, in Long Island pool accidents

SUFFOLK COUNTY - Suffolk County Police are investigating the death of a man who drowned in his backyard pool Monday night.  Officers responded to 7 Ibsen Court in Dix Hills after a 911 caller reported finding a man at the bottom of the deep end of the home’s in-ground pool.

Byungyun Lee, 67, a resident of the home, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392.

In an unrelated incident, Police are investigating an incident during which an 18-month-old girl was found unresponsive in a family’s in-ground pool in Sayville.

Police responded to Chester Road after a 911 caller reported that a toddler was found unresponsive in the pool at approximately 10:30 a.m. Police officers, with assistance from members of the Sayville Community Ambulance Company Inc., performed CPR on the girl.  She was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue and then transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was in serious condition.

The investigation is continuing.
