Schumer doing “everything possible” to kill FERC capacity zone

WASHINGTON – House members Sean Patrick Maloney (D, NY18) and Christopher Gibson (R, NY19) have adopted an amendment to block future funding and muscle to allow the establishment of a new Hudson Valley energy zone, but for it to be approved, the Senate must sign off on it before it would go to the president’s desk.

US Senator Charles Schumer (D, NY) would not commit specifically to the Maloney-Gibson measure, but wants the capacity zone killed.

“We are exploring every possible way to try and stop this, Harry Reid, at my behest, mentioned on the floor that he had asked the FERC people before they got appointed to do something as well,” Schumer said on Wednesday.

Lawmakers from the local, state and federal levels have been lobbying FERC to reverse its decision and do away with the new capacity zone and fee.
