Two officers injured when woman plows into police car

RAMAPO – Two police officers were injured early Saturday as they stood alongside Route 59 near Hemion Road in the Town of Ramapo and a woman plowed into a stopped police car. The police vehicle struck two of four officers who were talking with two individuals, throwing them a short distance.

One policeman, Ramapo Officer Raymond Smith, was admitted to Good Samaritan Hospital with internal injuries. The other officer, Suffern Patrolman Lance Weinstein, was treated and released at the hospital.

Police said the driver of the car, Iliana Negron, 21, of Suffern, was treated and released at Good Samaritan. She was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and vehicular assault.

Investigation determined Negron was driving on Route 59 when her Honda Civil struck the Ramapo Police car. The Honda rolled over before coming to rest back on its wheels.

The crash remains under investigation.
