Missing New York City man found dead in Dutchess County

POUGHKEEPSIE – A New York City man, who was visiting friends in the Pine Plains area when he went missing last Sunday, July 6 , was found dead Friday in a wooded area, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said Friday evening.

Peter Spear, 28, was walking to the Wassaic Train Station on Route 22 in Amenia when he was given a ride by a passerby, who dropped him off at the intersection of Routes 199 and 22.

The body of a man believed to be that of Spears was found in the woods close to where he was last seen.

Sheriff’s Captain John Watterson said at this time it does not appear to involve any suspicious circumstances or foul play.  The investigation is continuing in conjunction with the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office.
