Two dead in Thruway crash near Albany

GUILDERLAND – State police continue to investigate a three-vehicle high-speed crash that killed two people on the Thruway late Saturday night.

Two passengers in one car were dead at the scene.  They have been identified as Cody Veverka, 23, of S. Cairo, and Alicia Tamboia, 24, of Wingdale.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the operator of a Volkswagen, Tyler Pascuzzi, 24, of Coxsackie, was traveling west on I-90 carrying the two victims.

The car was in the center lane and reported to be traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a Honda operated by Brian Miller, 29, of Schenectady, NY.  Miller lost control, struck the center guide rail, and came to rest.

The Volkswagen began to spin and continued in a westerly direction striking a tractor trailer.  Upon impact with the trailer, the Volkswagen separated into two pieces

Pascuzzi and Miller were taken to an Albany hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

A fourth sedan passenger vehicle was traveling west behind the accident and struck parts of the Volkswagen causing damage to the vehicle.  The driver was uninjured.

Troop G Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Collision Reconstruction Units responded to the scene and are handling the investigation.
