State trooper dead of apparent suicide

LIBERTY – An 18-month veteran of the State Police assigned to Troop F Liberty barracks died on June 29.

Authorities said Kerstin Williams, 27, apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

State Police were called to the area of Nassau Lake in Rensselaer County for an unresponsive woman. Williams was dead. The investigation showing no signs of foul play and an autopsy listing the cause of death as the gunshot wound from the trooper’s police-issued firearm.

“Trooper Williams Always had a positive attitude and was eager to do a good job while on the road,” said Troop F Commander Major Patrick Regan. “She was well-liked by both her peers and supervisors and showed the skill set and potential to have an outstanding career with the New York State Police.”
