Man shot to death in confrontation with police

BAY SHORE - Suffolk County Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Bay Shore early Friday morning.

Two Third Precinct patrol officers initiated a traffic stop for vehicle and traffic violations on Howells Road in Bay Shore at 12:02 a.m. There were three occupants in the vehicle. The front seat passenger, Andres Morales, ran from the vehicle and one of the officers pursued him on foot. There was a confrontation between Morales and the officer.  Morales displayed a handgun. The officer shot two rounds and struck Morales twice in the torso.  Morales, 27, of Bay Shore, was dead at the scene.
