Fatal hit and run on Long Island

LEVITTOWN – Nassau County Police are investigating a fatal vehicular accident that occurred on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at 12:02 AM in Levittown.

According to detectives, a 13 year old female victim was crossing Hempstead Turnpike from the south to north side at Gardiners Avenue when she was struck by a vehicle travelling eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike.  The victim was transported to Nassau University Medical Center with head and body trauma and was pronounced dead at 4:30 AM. 

The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and was last seen travelling eastbound Hempstead Turnpike then northbound on to the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway.  The automobile is described as a 2011 to 2013 blue Town and Country minivan.

Detectives request anyone with information regarding this crime to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.  All callers will remain anonymous.
