Amity man arrested after standoff

AMITY - State Police were called to a physical altercation at a residence located on Ackerman Hill Road in the Town of Amity, on Saturday.  Prior to the patrols arriving on scene, the suspect, Reuben Stocking, 36, of Amity, fled into the woods armed with a gun.  The victims were able to safely exit the residence.  Stocking returned back to his residence and initiated a standoff with police for several hours. 
 
With the assistance of the New York State Police Crisis Negotiation Team, the Special Operations Response Team, and State Police Aviation, Stocking safely surrendered after several hours. 
 
Stocking was placed under arrest and charged with Criminal Obstruction of Breathing and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, both charges are class “A” Misdemeanors. 
 
Stocking is in the Allegany County Jail in lieu of $10, 000 cash bail/$15, 000 bond.  He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Amity Court on Wednesday.
