Death of college student in crash draws 15-year prison sentence

WHITE PLAINS – A Yonkers man was sentenced today to an indeterminate term of five to fifteen years in prison on his April, 2014 guilty plea in the death of another man in a car crash.  Mario Garcia-Sura, 49, of 77 Locust Hill Avenue, pled guilty in April to one count of aggravated vehicular homicide, a felony, and one count of driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.

Garcia-Sura was driving along Riverdale Avenue in Yonkers after another man and he stopped at neighborhood bodegas drinking beers. As he sped along Riverdale, at the intersection with Franklin Avenue, Garcia-Sura struck a car driven by Sreeraj Chandran, 19, who died an hour later at an area hospital.
