Daughter-in-law one of four women arrested in Rockland murder

NEW CITY – Four women have been arrested in connection with the murder of a Valley Cottage woman on January 25 of this year.  One of the suspects is the daughter-in-law of the victim.

Peggy Nadell, 81, was found dead in her home at 644 Andover Road in Valley Cottage.  At the time, police said they believed the victim knew her killer.

On Wednesday, Clarkstown Police and the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office announced the arrests of Diana Nadell, 50, of Cutler Bay, Florida, the victim’s daughter-in-law; Andrea Benson, 25, and Tanisha Joyner, 26, both of Washington, D.C.; and Elita Grant, 24, of East Long Beach, Florida.

DA Thomas Zugibe said the investigation was a collaboration of law enforcement.

“I have been in this profession for nearly 35 years,” Zugibe said.  “I have never seen a case that was thoroughly and exhaustively investigated and pursued. This was not a case that occurred in public where there was obvious evidence and videotapes. Instead it was a very sophisticated investigation conducted by a professional police department.”

Nadell and Benson were each charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.  Joyner and Grant were each charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

All four are in custody and awaiting extradition to New York from their current hometowns.
