Police chief arrested for possessing child pornography

WHITE PLAINS – Mount Pleasant’s police chief was arrested Wednesday at his Mahopac home on a charge that he possessed child pornography on his computer.

Brian Fanelli, 54, faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000 if convicted.

After he was advised of his Miranda rights, Fanelli told Homeland Security authorities that he taught sexual abuse awareness classes to elementary and middle school-age students for more than one year, and that about one year ago, he began viewing child pornography from his home using a peer-to-peer file sharing program. He downloaded over 120 files containing images and videos believed to be child porn and made them available to other such networks through his computer’s shared folder.

On three occasions, Homeland Security acting in an undercover capacity and using the P2P Network downloaded from Fanelli’s computer files containing images and videos believed to contain child pornography.
