Astorino names upstate sheriff as running mate

WHITE PLAINS – Republican gubernatorial candidate and Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino named Chemung County Sheriff Chris Moss as his running mate in the November election.

Astorino said Moss is a born and raised New Yorker, is FBI trained and holds a master’s degree in public administration from Marist College in Poughkeepsie.

“Sheriff Moss has hands-on executive experiencing, overseeing a team of deputy sheriffs and a full corrections department,” Astorino said, saying that Moss “most brings a reformer’s passion in a state in desperate need of reform – ethically, educationally, and economically.” Astorino said he wanted an “Albany outsider as a running mate to help me clean up this state and move it back into the winning column again, and I got one.”

Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo has yet to announce his lieutenant governor running mate. Current lieutenant governor, Robert Duffy, notified him last week that he would not seek a second term.
