Dozens of dead cats in Yonkers

YONKERS – Authorities were shocked when someone found black plastic bags tied to tree limbs in a wooded area of the City of Yonkers on Thursday. Those bags contained some 30 dead cats is varying stages of decomposition, leading investigators to believe some of those bags were placed there several months ago.

Ernest Lungaro, the Humane Enforcement officer for the SPCA of Westchester County, was shocked by what he saw.

“It was very disturbing and it was very unusual,” Lungaro said.  “There are a lot of questions and we are following up a lot of leads because we don’t know if the person who killed the cats is the same person who tied up the bags.”

Yonkers Police are investigating with the SPCA.
