Flags at half-staff for fallen Fort Drum soldier

ALBANY - Flags on state government buildings are at half-staff today in honor of a Fort Drum soldier who died in Landstuhl Regional Medical Cemetery in Germany on April 15 as a result of injuries suffered in Afghanistan on April 12.

Specialist Kerry Danyluk, of Cuero, Texas, was wounded when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire in Pul-e-Alam, Logar Province. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment of the 10th Mountain Division’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team.

“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I extend sincere condolences to the family and friends of Specialist Kerry Danyluk,” Governor Andrew Cuomo said. “We are saddened at the death of this young soldier, and we join with his fellow soldiers at Fort Drum in honoring his service to our nation and in mourning his loss.”
