Pearl River man gets 10-year federal prison term in fatal drug overdose case

NEW YORK – A Pearl River man, who used workers compensation benefits to pay for prescriptions of Oxymorphone, codeine, methadone and other medications, which he sold for profit, was sentenced in federal court to 10 years in prison.

Craig Oleksowicz, 38, sold Oxymorphone pills in 2011 to two men, ages 20 and 21, both from Pearl River, who died from overdoses of the meds.  He continued to sell pills on at least four other occasions in February 2012.

“The illegal distribution of highly-addictive and dangerous prescription pills is the fastest-growing drug problem in the country,” said US Attorney Preet Bharara.
