Human remains found in Putnam woods

PATTERSON – Police continue to investigate the discovery of apparent human remains in a wooded area in the Town of Patterson.

The badly decomposed body was found at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, some 500 feet east of Maple Avenue.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office initially investigated but turned over the investigation to the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Brewster barracks.

State Police K-9 tracking yielded additional evidence and remains, police said. The Troop K Forensic Identification Unit assisted with the examination of the scene.

Identification of the remains is pending a pathology examination and DNA testing.
