Police officer struck by car, has broken leg

CORNWALL – A Town of Cornwall police officer who was struck while conducting a traffic stop on Route 32 Wednesday night is apparently okay and was discharged from the hospital Thursday.

Steven Bedetti, was directing traffic on Route 32 at the scene of a car fire at 8:35 p.m. when another motorist drove by in a pickup truck, did not see the officer in the road and struck him. That driver saw Bedetti on the ground when he looked in his rear view mirror and pulled over, police said.

Bedetti was taken to the hospital with a broken leg and some lacerations.

No charges were filed against the driver of the vehicle that hit the officer.
