Colonie man arrested for impersonating a State Trooper

ALBANY - State Police where conducting a traffic stop on Washington Avenue in Albany on April 13, when a man pulled his vehicle over and approached them.   Anthony Chandler, 20, of Colonie, asked the Troopers if they needed any assistance and said he too was a Trooper out of Latham, NY.

Other than wearing a polo shirt which displayed State Police logo, Chandler had no other identification to say he was actually a police officer.

Not knowing the man, Troopers began asking Chandler basic questions regarding his station assignment and various particulars to which he said he had been a Trooper for about a year.  After answering incorrectly to a few fundamental questions, Chandler admitted he lied and was not a Trooper.

Police arrested Chandler, completed their original investigation, and transported him to SP Albany for processing.  He was charged with criminal impersonation of a public servant, a misdemeanor.  Chandler was issued an Appearance Ticket and several traffic tickets returnable to the City of Albany Court on Tuesday April 22.
