Kingston man charged with killing his elderly mother

KINGSTON – A Kingston man was arrested and charged with killing his 86-year-old mother.

City police Saturday night charged Mark Carpino, 53, 122 West Chester Street with second-degree murder in the death of Audrey Carpino.

At 9:25 a.m. on Saturday, officers responded to 122 West Chester for a reported homicide. An officer on routine patrol was flagged down by a person familiar with the Carpino family, who told him that a family member said that someone had killed Audrey Carpino.

Officers found the elderly woman dead in her bedroom.  An initial examination at the scene revealed that blunt force trauma appeared to be the cause of death. An autopsy will determine the exact cause of death.

Mark Carpino was identified early on as a witness to the crime and as the investigation unfolded, he because a suspect in the death of his mother. Police said evidence uncovered during the investigation led to his arrest on the murder charge.

The Ulster county District Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.
