Bloods gang leader gets life in prison

NEW YORK – The leader of the Newburgh Bloods street gang will spend the rest of his life in federal prison. Anthony Boykin was sentenced in federal court on Tuesday to life plus 32 years after being found guilty of racketeering, murder, a crack cocaine distribution conspiracy, and possessing and using firearms.

Another gang member, Justin Simmons, was sentenced to 50 years in federal prison after being convicted of participating in a racketeering conspiracy, participating in a crack cocaine distribution conspiracy and possessing and using firearms.

“The Newburgh Bloods have made victims not only of those they shot, stabbed, and killed, but every Newburgh resident who has had to live with the terror wrought by the gang’s legacy of drugs and violence,” sand Manhattan US Attorney Preet Bharara. “The sentences handed down show that if you choose to engage in drug-dealing and gang violence, you will be held accountable for your actions and deprived of your liberty.”
