Caution advised following complaints of phony utility company calls

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office is investigating several complaints from county business that have received calls from individuals claiming to represent Central Hudson Gas and Electric.

The callers are telling business owners their electric bills are past due and that they will be shot off if they do not receive a money order or wire transaction.

The sheriff’s office is encouraging the public to be cautious and to verify any suspicious calls by calling back the utility provider using a published phone number.

Businesses and residents should not give out personal or account information, authorities advised.

Anyone concerned or victimized by possible scams should call the sheriff’s office at 845-486-3800.
