State Police Superintendent Joseph D’Amico named 2014 Person of the Year Award   by security organization

NEW YORK - ASIS International, an organization for security professionals, honored New York State Police Superintendent Joseph D’Amico with its 2014 Person of the Year Award on Friday, March 14 in New York City.

“I am truly honored to receive the Person of the Year recognition from the ASIS International New York City Chapter,” said D’Amico. “I have been fortunate in my career to work for two great police agencies, the New York City Police Department and now the New York State Police. I know that I owe my success, in large part, to the men and women of those organizations, and the support of my family.”

The ASIS New York City Person of the Year Award is a prestigious annual award presented to a public official or private sector individual that has demonstrated outstanding dedication, caring, and service to the New York community. It recognizes the individual’s contribution to the security and safety of all citizens in NY State and the Greater New York Metropolitan Area.

The award recipient is chosen by the senior leadership of the ASIS New York City Chapter and it requires unanimous committee agreement for selection. Former award recipients include former NYSP Superintendent William Connelie, former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and the late George M. Steinbrenner III, former owner of the New York Yankees.

This year’s honor was presented at a luncheon, part of the 24th New York City Security Conference & Expo, hosted by the ASIS NYC Chapter. The expo is the largest regional conference in the Northeast for security and law enforcement. Nearly 3,000 security practitioners, corporate decision-makers, and law enforcement personnel from Maine to Florida and across the nation were in attendance.

ASIS International is the leading organization for security professionals, with more than 38,000 members worldwide. Founded in 1955, ASIS is dedicated to increasing the effectiveness and productivity of security professionals by developing educational programs and materials that address broad security interests, such as the ASIS Annual Seminar and Exhibits, as well as specific security topics. ASIS also advocates the role and value of the security management profession to business, the media, government entities, and the public.

Governor Andrew Cuomo nominated Joseph D’Amico for the position of Superintendent of the New York State Police on December 22, 2010.
