Defendant pleads guilty to assault and failing to register as a sex offender

ALBANY- Carlos Santiago, 33, of Albany, pleaded guilty to single Counts of Assault in the Second Degree, a Violent Felony, and Failure to Register or Verify, a Felony, in Albany County Court on February 28, 2014.

On December 5, 2013 in the area of Elberon Place in the City of Albany, the defendant used a piece of glass to cause an injury to the victim’s head. A subsequent investigation uncovered that the defendant, a Level 1 sex offender, had failed to properly notify the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services that he had moved to a different address.

Santiago faces 2 ½ years in State Prison, to be followed by 3 years of Post Release Supervision when sentenced on March 28.  Santiago additionally faces a concurrent sentence of 1 to 3 years in state prison for failing to register as a sex offender.
