NEWBURGH – A Poughkeepsie man was arrested in connection with the shooting death of a Town of Newburgh man while in the City of Newburgh on January 6.

The victim, Jared Plante, 36, was driving an SUV when he was shot and killed. His vehicle crashed into a garden apartment building on Carobene Court in Newburgh that serves as student housing for Mount Saint Mary College.

Police investigated and arrested Daryl Daniels, 25, of Poughkeepsie, charging him with second-degree murder.

He was arrested on February 27 in the Town of Poughkeepsie when he was taken into custody with assistance of City and Town of Poughkeepsie Police and the US Marshals Service.

Newburgh Police Chief Michael Ferrara did not release a motive for the killing and said the investigation is continuing.
