Assemblyman introduces legislation to block de Blasio illegal immigrant ID card proposal

FISHKILL – State Assemblyman Kieran Michael Lalor (R, Fishkill) will attempt to block a proposal by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to issue identification cards to illegal immigrants.

Lalor, who served in Iraq with the Marine Corps Reserves, said the mayor’s plan would cause a national security problem.

“Like a lot of amnesty-type programs, whether municipal, state or federal, it sends a wrong message to those people waiting in line to get into our great country and are doing the right thing,” he said. “Whenever you have the ends justifying the means, it’s never good. What has made our country great is the rule of law and if we start finding loop holes to the rule of law, it undermines the fabric of what we are.”

Lalor said he will introduce legislation in Albany in an effort to prevent the issuing of those ID cards statewide.
