Bayshore man sentenced for 2012 hit and run death

HAUPPAUGE - A Bayshore man was sentenced in Suffolk County criminal court for driving drunk and leaving the scene of a fatal crash in December of 2012.

On December 22, 2012, Alejandro Padilla, 25, drove into the rear end of Zenaida Falcon’s Hyundai, propelling the victim’s vehicle across Carleton Avenue into a utility pole. Seriously injured, Ms. Falcon, 47, died the next day.

“Fortunately, an eye witness to the crash saw the defendant’s license plate and reported it to police,” District Attorney Thomas Spota said.  “Officers were waiting for Padilla when he arrived home, and the lab analysis of his blood showed his blood-alcohol level two hours after the fatal crash was .09.”

A judge sentenced Padilla to two to six years’ incarceration in an upstate correctional facility prison for his conviction on each charge in the indictment: manslaughter in the second degree, two counts of vehicular manslaughter in the second degree, leaving the scene of an incident without reporting, and a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated.
