Former union president accused of stealing $23K enters plea deal, will get prison time

ALBANY – A Hoosick Falls man pleaded guilty to one count of attempted grand larceny in the 3rd degree, a felony, in Albany County Court Wednesday morning.

Between September 1, 2011 and August 2, 2012, while president of the Amalgamated Transit Union, Green stole $3,863 from the union pension fund account and $19,219.18 in union funds consisting of union dues and vending machine payments.  The theft totaled $23,082.18.  The defendant facilitated this theft by depositing union funds into an unauthorized union bank account which he depleted by August 2, 2012.

Green reimbursed the union for the $3,863 stolen pension fund money.  Bank records show that at least $3,000 of that came from the unauthorized union bank account.
Green faces 1 to 3 years in State Prison when sentenced on March 19, 2014.  In addition to prison time, he will be ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $22,540.61.  This dollar amount was calculated to be the sum Green still owes from the theft.
