Police ID Newburgh murder victim

NEWBURGH – The victim of the City of Newburgh’s first homicide of 2014 was a Town of Newburgh man.

Jared Plante, 36, of the Town of Newburgh, died of multiple gunshot wounds while driving an SUV. The vehicle crashed into 4 Carobene Court, which is student housing for Mount Saint Mary College, but the chief said the shooting had nothing to do with the school.

After the victim’s SUV crashed into the building, city firefighters extricated Plante, who was pronounced dead at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital’s Newburgh campus.

Police Chief Michael Ferrara said they are working on a number of leads in the case.
