Buffalo area trooper injured while making DWI arrest

BUFFALO - A Trooper from State Police Buffalo responded to a report of a one car property damage auto accident on I-190. While interviewing the driver the trooper noticed signs of intoxication and performed field sobriety testing, which the driver Wade Wampler, 36, of Gowanda, NY failed and was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated.
 
During handcuffing, Wampler began struggling with the trooper and was eventually handcuffed with the assistance of Buffalo Fire personnel.  While being placed in the State Police vehicle Wampler continued to resist arrest and began kicking the trooper.
 
Wampler has been charged with assault 2nd and obstructing governmental administration, both felonies, and misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest, false personation and DWI. He is being held in the City of Buffalo Police lockup awaiting arraignment.
 
The trooper was treated and released.
