Man dead on Oneida County road, police investigating

SANGERFIELD - The Oneida County Sheriff's Office is investigating an accident on Rt. 20 in the Town of Sangerfield.  The Sheriff’s Office responded at approximately 6:45 Monday morning when a call came in that an individual had struck a person who was lying in the center of the east bound lane on Rt. 20 just south of Waterville. 

The operator of the vehicle stated he was moving into the passing lane when he realized there was a person lying in the roadway.   The driver tried swerving his vehicle but stated he was unable to avoid striking the person lying in the road.  The operator of the vehicle turned his vehicle around and came back to where the person was lying.  The operator of the vehicle pulled the person off to the side of the road and called 911. 

The person who was struck was dead at the scene. 

The Sheriff’s office is investigating the accident and is asking the public’s help.  Anyone who was driving on Rt. 20 during the morning hours before 6:45 a.m. and saw a person walking along the roadway or any vehicle pulled to the side of the road in the Town of Sangerfield to contact the Oneida County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Unit at  765-2208 or 765-2226 if no answer please leave your name and number.
