Putnam bank branch held up second time

PUTNAM LAKE – For the second time in less than two weeks, the Putnam Lake branch of the Putnam County National Bank has been robbed.

State Police said a man walked into the bank on Haviland Drive around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 2 and demanded money.

The bank was also robbed on Friday, December 20, by a man who demanded money and took off.  In both of those incidents, no weapon was displayed.

Police did not say if they believe the same person committed both crimes.

The suspect in the latest heist was described as a white man who wore a dark nylon jacket with white stripes under his arms, blue jeans, white sneakers and a blue winter hat.  He fled to an adjacent parking lot and was seen driving a white sedan on Fairfield Drive toward Connecticut.

This is the third bank robbery in Putnam in that timeframe. On December 23, a People’s United Bank branch on Route 22 in Brewster was robbed by a man with a weapon.

In all three cases, police did not reveal the amount of money taken.
