Three wounded, two arrested following shootout at Orange County bar

OTISVILLE – Two men are under arrest in connection with a shootout at the Victory Lane Bar in Otisville early Sunday morning.

When State Police responded to the bar around 2:30 a.m. they found David Babcock, 27, and his brother, Andrew Babcock, 25, had been shot. They were airlifted to Westchester Medical Center and admitted for non-life threatening wounds. A third man, Kevin Brennan, Jr., 24, of Middletown, had been brought to Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill by private vehicle. He was treated for a minor gunshot wound.

During the investigation, it was learned that Brennan shot David Babcock inside the bar after an altercation between Babcock and Thomas Hughes, a friend of Brennan. As Brennan left the bar, police said Andrew Babcock followed him into the parking lot, where the two shot and wounded each other. Andrew Babcock was carrying a legally possessed and registered handgun at the time of the incident.

Brennan was charged with two counts of first-degree assault, one count each of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal use of a weapon and reckless endangerment. Hughes, 26, of Port Jervis, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon.  Both are in the Orange County Jail.

The incident remains under investigation. Charges against Andrew Babcock will be considered when he is released from the hospital, police said.
