Buffett family funds “farm hub” project

HURLEY – The NoVo Foundation, which funded the purchase of the Gill Farms in Ulster County, is owned by the family of billionaire financier Warren Buffett.

The group paid $13 million for the farm, which will be developed as a farm hub for Hudson Valley farmers to access hands-on training, education and services.

Buffett’s son, Peter, is the co-chair of NoVo. His wife, Jennifer, is the president and co-chair.  Peter Buffett is a musician, philanthropist and author.

The New York City-based NoVo Foundation lists its mission as one to foster a transformation from a world of discrimination and exploitation to one of collaboration and partnership.

The farm hub will aim to bolster the local agricultural economy, while ensuring that the area’s agricultural heritage and open space are preserved.

Warren Buffett is chairman, CEO and the largest shareholder of Berkshire Hathaway and ranked among the wealthiest people in the world.
