Elderly man dead in Long Island fire

LOCUST VALLEY - The Arson Bomb Squad reports the details of a fatal fire which occurred on Friday, November 08, 2013 at 1:25 P.M. in Locust Valley.

According to detectives, Nassau County Second Precinct Patrol Officers were dispatched to a fire at 17 2nd Avenue.  Upon arrival they discovered the rear of the home to be engulfed in flames.  Peter Zukas, 81, was dead at the scene.  The fire is not deemed to be suspicious at this time. 

Zukas retired from the Nassau County Police Department in 1991 after 27 years of service.
