SPARROWBUSH – State Police are investigating a fatal shooting Friday morning in the Town of Deerpark.
Troopers said a wanted for rape in Rockland County was shot to death off Old Plank Road in Sparrowbush.
The dead man was identified as Norris Acosta-Sanchez, 35,of Ramapo, who was wanted on an active arrest warrant for two counts of felony rape, criminal sexual act and the misdemeanor of endangering the welfare of a child.
The alleged shooter, David Carlson, 42, of Sparrowbush, has been charged with murder, police said.
Deerpark Town Police had received information on Wednesday, October 9 that Acosta-Sanchez was living at a cabin on Old Plank Road in Sparrowbush. A search warrant was secured and members of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Group attempted to serve it on Thursday.
Acosta-Sanchez was camping in a makeshift shelter a distance away from the cabin and while officers were attempting to serve the warrant, he fled on foot, entered the Rio Reservoir and swam to the western shore, continuing to flee into the Town of Lumberland.
Several police agencies from Sullivan, Orange and Rockland counties along with authorities from federal park police, State Police and fire personnel, searched for the suspect until darkness on Thursday.
The sources told MidHudsonNews.com that on Friday morning, a neighbor on Old Plank Road shot and killed Acosta-Sanchez.
