An open letter to Washington:

Okay, boys and girls, it’s time to cut the nonsense of doing nothing and get down to business. Frankly, stop the political bickering of what to do about oil prices and DO SOMETHING.

Gas prices are going up by nickels and dimes every day and whether you know it or not, the little guy in small town America is being financially destroyed.

We heard when the Democrats took over Congress that things would change. Then we heard the President threatened to block anything the Dems wanted to do.

While you are doing nothing, the average American worker is finding it more difficult to make ends meet, drive to work, buy groceries and pay their rent or mortgage.

We should mention parenthetically that most, if not all of you, don’t pay for your own gas, tolls, oil changes and yes, even your vehicles, which often times come out of your budget allotments.

It’s interesting that while you say you can do nothing about the obscene rate at which oil prices are rising, months ago when you wanted to pass the economic stimulus rebate check bill, it went through lickity-split. Why, you ask? We’ll tell you why. Because it was politically expedient. It is an election year, and frankly those checks buy votes for your re-election.

So, the bottom line is, do whatever is necessary to get this done NOW. Cut off sophisticated weapons promised to Saudi Arabia. Stop adding to the Strategic Oil Reserve. And, yes, declare a tax holiday during the summer months.

The more obvious solutions … tap the resources we know exist, including The Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), and the 85 percent of offshore oil resources currently ‘off limits’.  An even more obvious solution … expand the nation’s refining capacity.  No new refineries have been built in this country for 31 years.

It seems that we have an entire government of Neros playing their fiddles while the entire country smolders.

We’ve had enough. Elections are not that far off.
