Head-on crash kills Ulster County man

MARBLETOWN – A head-on crash between an 18-wheel tractor-trailer truck and a pickup truck on Route 209 in the Town of Marbletown early Wednesday killed the pickup truck driver.

The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Peter Hull, 42, of Berme Road in Ellenville.  He died at the scene

The tractor-trailer was driven by Ciro Rodrigues, 40, of Yonkers. Police did not provide any information about any his condition following the crash.

Authorities said the tractor-trailer was southbound on Route 209 shortly after 5 a.m. when it collided with the northbound pickup truck, near the intersection of Whitelands Road. The pickup was pushed off the road.  The tractor-trailer overturned spilling an undetermined amount of diesel fuel as well as its load of construction debris.

Detectives were assisted by the State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, Kripplebush-Lyonsville, Accord, and Stone Ridge fire departments, the Kingston Fire Department’s Haz-mat team, state Transportation Department and Marbletown First Aid Unit.

The investigation is continuing.  Anyone who may have witnesses the crash is asked to call the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office at 845-338-3640.
