Murder-suicide in Ulster County

CRAGSMOOR – Ulster County Sheriffs deputies responded to 40 Dellenbaugh Road in the hamlet of Cragsmoor to check the welfare of Paul McCombs, 62, and his wife, Sharon McCombs, 61, both of that address. Neither had been heard from in over 24 hours. Upon arrival, deputies found both subjects deceased in the said residence.

Preliminary investigation indicated Mr. McCombs sustained two gunshot wounds to his head, inflicted by Mrs. McCombs, using a small caliber handgun.  Mrs. McCombs is then suspected to have ingested an undetermined quantity of prescription medications. At this time, the investigation does not indicate there were other victims or participants in this incident. The investigation remains active with additional leads being pursued, pending autopsy examinations and toxicology results.

Deputies were assisted by the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Unit and members of the NYSP Ellenville Barracks.

Anyone familiar with the subjects with additional information should contact Detective Sergeant Abram Markiewicz at 845-340-3956 or e-mail amak@co.ulster.ny.us
