Juveniles arrested after joyriding in stolen wheelchair, posting photos on Facebook

FLOWER HILL – Nassau County police report the arrest of two juveniles for a burglary that occurred on Saturday, June 8, at 11:30 p.m. in Flower Hill.

Detectives allege the male juveniles, 14 years of age, from East Hills and Flower Hill, entered a residence under construction on Ridge Drive and removed a Quantum 600 Power Base wheel chair valued at over $17,000 dollars. The juveniles proceeded to ride the wheel chair around the neighborhood until the battery died at which time they abandoned it.

The investigation led detectives to the juveniles when they discovered pictures posted on Facebook. On Monday June 10, 2013 the Juveniles were located and placed under arrest without incident. The wheelchair was not recovered.

Both juveniles are charged with burglary 3rd degree and grand larceny 3rd degree. They will appear on Monday, June 17, 2013 at Family Court in Westbury.

Detectives request anyone with information about the location of the wheelchair to contact the Nassau County Police.
